On the 27 of January 1945 the Soviet Red Army liberated the prisoners of the biggest Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim) in Poland.  The liberation of Auschwitz by the Soviet soldiers marked the end of the mass extermination of people, mostly Jews, in the Nazi death camp.  This day is the symbol of the end of the Nazi genocide. Since 2005 the 27th of January is commemorated as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day by the United Nations.  Today, on January 27, 2023, President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message to the organisers and participants of events held as part of International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 78th anniversary of the liberation of prisoners at the Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim) concentration camp by the Red Army. The message reads: “Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember a dramatic moment of World War II when the Red Army liberated prisoners at the Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim) concentration camp.  Of course, we

One of the delousing machines in the former Nazi extermination camp of Auschwitz - Birkenau in Oswieçim, Poland.  These machines were located in a big building known as the “sauna” in the back of the grounds at Auschwitz-Birkenau. It went into use in late 1943.  The newly arrived prisoners, if selected at the ramp as being fit to work and therefor not sent to the gas chambers, were registered and subjected to disinfection before being exploited as slave laborers.  They were also deprived of their own identities and transformed into mere numbers. This was where the Nazis began what can be defined as an attempt at dehumanization.  Approximately 1.2 million people were murdered at Auschwitz.

Liberation Holocaust Memorial by Nathan Rapoport: Brotherhood of Man (1911-1987) who is also known as Natan Rapoport, was a Jewish sculptor who was born in Warsaw, Poland.  His middle name may be rendered in English as either Yaakov or Jacob.  In 1936, he won a scholarship to study in France and Italy. He fled to the Soviet Union when the Nazis invaded Poland.  The Soviets initially provided him with a studio, but later compelled him to work as a manual laborer.  After the end of hostilities, he returned to Poland to study at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. In 1950, Rapoport immigrated to the United States, where he lived in New York until his death in 1987.  His sculptures:  -Liberation (Holocaust Memorial) Liberty State Park, Jersey City, New Jersey  Officially dedicated on May 30, 1985, the monument portrays an American soldier carrying a survivor out of a concentration camp. On this day in 1944, the citizens of Warsaw, Poland are finally crushed after launching a massive city-wide uprising against the Nazi German occupiers that lasted 63 days.  The Poles had suffered brutally under German occupation since 1939, and, until June 1941, also Soviet occupation.  The Nazi regime intended to wipe out the Polish nation utterly, replacing the native Poles and Jews with German colonists in the name of Lebensraum, “living room.”  The Soviets had deported hundreds of thousands of Poles to Siberia, murdering tens of thousands in the infamous Katyn Massacre of 1940. Both regimes engaged in a policy of “decapitation,” killing all the Polish elites they could find in order to inhibit the Poles’ capacity to resist.  But despite these hardships, the Polish people continued to resist. They had set up one of the largest and most extensive resistance movements in occupied Europe: an entire underground government, complete with schools, courts, a postal service, and a large und

80 years ago today in 1939, in the dead of night, a small team of German operatives clad in Polish operatives led by SS man Alfred Naujocks seized the Gleiwitz Radio Station and made a short anti-German broadcast in Poland before leaving a number of corpses on the scene dressed in uniforms.  Though there were many orchestrated incidents taking place along the German-Polish border, this was the one which was to be remembered for it was the one which Hitler was to use to claim that Poland had fired the first shot.  A day later the Wehrmacht would cross the border and the Second World War would begin (Alfred Naujocks, the man who fired the first shot, pictured before and after the war). A year ago in Munich Hitler had carved up Czechoslovakia on the condition that it would be his last territorial acquisition, the leaders of the West taking him at his word as though he were any other European statesman.  The Nazi leader however was anything but conventional and over the year which followed

That family was called Kowalski, a common surname in Poland. In late 1942, in the midst of ghettos liquidation in occupied Poland, and deportation of their residents to Auschwitz-Birkenau, Sobibór and Treblinka extermination centers, as well as to a number of concentration camps, the Germans wanted to make sure that their legislation in the matter was obeyed and the Polish population did not stand in the way of the Holocaust.  Early in the morning on 6 December, 20-odd gendarmes arrived in a Polish village of Stary Ciepielów in the Kielce region.  They’d been tipped off about Jews sheltered by a few local families, and the legislation introduced by the General Government authorities was clear: aiding the Jews was illegal. The offenders would be punished. The Germans split up and surrounded the houses of Jan Kowalski, Piotr Obuchowicz and WÅ‚adysÅ‚aw Kosior. In the last one, they indeed found two Jews; in the others, they came across cleverly disguised shelters, plus traces of people hidi

January 27 is International #HolocaustRemembranceDay and the anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi Concentration

January 27 is International #HolocaustRemembranceDay and the anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, which took place 74 years ago.  On this day we pay tribute to the millions of victims of the #Holocaust but also recommit to preserving the memory of the victims of German Nazi oppression. On this day and everyday: Words Matter. Remember to use the correct terms when describing German Nazi camps.  It’s not just a matter of semantics. It’s a matter of historical integrity and accuracy. Using precise language when discussing the Holocaust is essential to never forget. #WordsMatter #WeRemember On the map: on black German death camps in occupied Europe. On grey Ghettos.

Khan was a wartime British secret agent of Indian descent who was the first female radio operator sent into Nazi-occupied France by the Special Operations Executive (SOE). She was arrested and eventually executed by the Gestapo. Noor Inayat Khan was born on New Year's Day 1914 in Moscow to an Indian father and an American mother.  She was a direct descendant of Tipu Sultan, the 18th century Muslim ruler of Mysore. Khan's father was a musician and Sufi teacher.  He moved his family first to London and then to Paris, where Khan was educated and later worked writing childrens' stories. Khan escaped to England after the fall of France and in November 1940 she joined the WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force).  In late 1942, she was recruited to join SOE as a radio operator. Although some of those who trained her were unsure about her suitability, in June 1943 she was flown to France to become the radio operator for the 'Prosper' resistance network in Paris, with the cod

WHEN THE MURDERERS FORGOT TO ELIMINATE THE ONLY EYE WITNESS!

WHEN THE MURDERERS FORGOT TO ELIMINATE THE ONLY EYE WITNESS! My father and I had to identify my mother when she passed away. I hadn't been told that she was dead, nor had I been told that she was not living with my father at the time. A few months before, my father had separated from three of his wives including her.  However my mothers father, Reverend Silas Adroa, an Anglican priest, travelled to State House and told my father in no uncertain terms that in the Anglican church, the Church of Uganda, there was no such thing as divorce.  So they agreed that my mother stay in a separate place for a while, and return to State House in a few weeks. I had just been frantically picked from boarding school one morning, and was in fact quite excited to go home and see my parents.  The body guards hadn't told me anything as we travelled to Kampala. So I only realized my mother was dead when the doctor uncovered her face at the mortuary. I broke into tears. She had been attacked by four

555TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY BATTALION [TRIPLE NICKLES] (1944-1947).

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY 365 555TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY BATTALION [TRIPLE NICKLES] (1944-1947). During the winter of 1943-1944, the first black paratroopers in army history began training at Fort Benning, Georgia. A fter several months, the segregated unit was moved to Camp Mackall, North Carolina, where it was reorganized and redesignated as Company A of the newly activated 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion.  Unlike other African American infantry units officered by whites, the 555th was entirely black since six black officers also completed jump training. By late 1944, the first platoon of Triple Nickles was fully trained, combat-ready, and alerted for European duty.  The men were anxious to fight Hitler’s Nazis in Europe or the Japanese in the Pacific. Instead, racial military politics and changing war conditions kept the paratroopers home and away from the war they had been trained to fight. In early 1945, the Triple Nickles had received secret orders from the War Department called

Johnny Eck, also known as Johnny Eckhardt, was a remarkable individual born in 1911 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.  He is best known for his unique physical condition and his career as an entertainer.  Johnny Eck was born with a rare congenital disorder known as sacral agenesis, which caused his legs to be extremely short and non-functional, giving him the appearance of a person with no lower half. Despite his physical challenges, Johnny Eck led an extraordinary life. He and his twin brother Robert were performers in various sideshows and circuses during the 1920s and 1930s.  Johnny became famous for his role in Todd Browning's 1932 cult film "Freaks," where he played the role of a performer named "Half-Boy."  In the film, he showcased his incredible upper body strength and agility, using his hands to move around with astonishing dexterity. Johnny Eck's career extended beyond film; he also worked as an illusionist, painter, and model maker. His remarkable tale

The ferocious animal that became extinct relatively recently

The ferocious animal that became extinct relatively recently The Giant Moa. Also called Dinornite, it is a gigantic non-flying bird of prey that lived in New Zealand until 1500. It became extinct due to the vicious hunting reserved for it by the natives of the area, in search of fur, meat and eggs that the carcasses of the species offered. It is a subspecies of the Moa, which generally had different sizes, the largest being - in fact - those of the Dinornite. Specifically, these 'colossi' measured up to 3.6 meters in height and could weigh up to 300 kg, with one of the highest sexual dysmorphisms in favor of the female gender ever recorded in nature (280%).

The terrible story of the danish explorer ejnar Mikkelsen who's was trapped in the Arctic with a single inexperience crewmate

For more than two years,Danish explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen was trapped in the Arctic with a single inexperienced crewmate after the rest of the expedition left without them. From 1910 to 1912, they survived by eating their sled dogs and abandoned rations from previous expeditions while evading bears, wolves, and foxes.  Once, when a polar bear broke into their cabin in the middle of winter, they had to fight it off with only an axe while they frantically tried to heat up their frozen shotgun by the fire so it could shoot.

Why So Many Countries Are Dumping the Dollar

Why So Many Countries Are Dumping the Dollar Recent headlines paint a worrying picture of the world. One claims that the dollar is finished. Another suggests that America's dominance in the world is over. And the most alarming headline was about how America's hegemony will soon come to an end. One reason why some countries are declining to use the US dollar lately is because of "dedollarisation." In the early part of this century, the same thing happened to the British pound.  As many of you know, after World War I, Britain's economic power decreased while it was waging war. At the same time, The USA emerged from WWI in a much stronger position and became even more powerful after WWII. In 1944, the Bretton Woods Agreement was signed which established a fixed exchange rate for currencies. This meant that countries wouldn't get into currency wars, whereby they might devalue their own currency in order to gain an economic advantage.  In short, the agreement was m

Why are man attracted to women who look standardized?

Why are man attracted to women who look standardized? Men are attracted to women who have mathematically optimal faces because they offer a balance of physical perfection which signals good genetics.  A woman with a mathematically optimal face has a face that is perfectly proportioned and aesthetically appealing.  There are many factors that contribute to having the optimal face, including visible ramus and defined mandible, forward grown maxilla, slightly upturned thick brows, hollow cheeks, defined cheekbones, symmetry, thick hair, clear skin, even FWHR, midface ratio, harmonious facial thirds, good philtrum to chin ratio and mouth to nose width ratio.

On November 24, 2009, John Edward Jones tragically lost his life in the Nutty Putty cave following a harrowing 28-hour ordeal.   While exploring with his brother Josh, Jones accidentally entered a constricted tunnel, mistaking it for another tight passage known as the “Birth Canal.”    He became lodged upside-down in a 10 by 18 inches (25 by 46 cm) opening approximately 400 feet (120 m) from the cave’s entrance.   Jones was trapped in a position resembling a hook, where any movement could cause severe injury due to the unnatural angles of his body.   A large team of rescuers responded, employing an advanced rope-and-pulley system in their efforts to save him. However, the operation faced a setback when a pulley malfunctioned during the extraction process.   Jones eventually suffered cardiac arrest, a consequence of the prolonged stress on his body from being in an inverted and compressed position.   The rescuers, realizing the high risk involved, decided against attempting to recover h

THE WORST AND TERRIBLE EXECUTION METHOD ~ CEMENT SHOES OF MAFIA VICTIM

THE WORST AND TERRIBLE EXECUTION METHOD ~ CEMENT SHOES OF MAFIA VICTIM Cement shoes or Chicago overcoat is a largely fictional method of execution and/or body disposal, usually associated with criminals such as the Mafia or gangs.  It involves weighting down the victim, who may be dead or alive, with concrete and throwing them into the water in the hope the body will never be found. In the US, the term has become tongue-in-cheek for a threat of death by criminals. Only one real-life case is confirmed. In May 2016, the first and only documented case of "cement shoes" was reported. The body of Brooklyn gang member Peter Martinez, aged 28, better known on the streets as Petey Crack, washed up near Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn. His head was wrapped in duct tape. His feet and shins were encased in concrete set inside a five-gallon bucket. His body floated to the shore due to air in the concrete because it was not given enough time to dry before being thrown into the ocean. Cement s

THE TERRIBLE STORY OF YARI-BUSUMA

THE TERRIBLE STORY OF YARI-BUSUMA. To counter a charge of advancing horse mounted samurai, the ashigaru would line up and crouch down with their faces downwards to suppress any fear, and to prevent the oncoming horses from being spooked.  Spears would be held out facing forwards, with the tips rested on the ground, and slightly crossed over the spear shaft of the samurai next to them. As the horses would approach, the latticework of spears before them would unsettle them, slowing the advance.  If this failed to slow them, the ashigaru would raise their faces, putting fear into the horses. Spears would be raised at the last second to impale the horses and unseat the riders, in which case they would be dispatched by a small group of samurai or ashigaru, or be raised to a height in which to stab at the riders. The long spear was ideal for frontline foot soldiers. The ashigaru spearmen would be equipped with long spears of around four to six meters in length, and topped with a 15 to 90cm s

One of the hardest true crime cases I've ever covered.

One of the hardest true crime cases I've ever covered.  On January 3, 2022, a 911 call was made from Slaughter, Louisiana. The caller, Sheila Fletcher, told the dispatcher that her daughter, 36-year-old Lacey Fletcher, had passed away while she and her husband, 65-year-old Clay Fletcher, were out of town over the weekend. Police and ambulance shortly arrived at their house and were faced with a horrific scene. Image: The couch where she was stuck for 12 years The coroner described the state of Lacey's body as one of the worst he had ever seen. Lacey was autistic and also suffered from Locked-in syndrome. Her body was entirely paralyzed except for her eye muscle. She was severely neglected, emaciated, and covered in feces and urine. Her parents, Sheila and Clay, let her sit, urinate, and eventually starve on that couch for years. Lacey was starved to the extent that she tried to eat the couch cushion. Her body was found practically melted into the couch, covered in maggots.

A Kentucky woman, Marilyn Stanley called off her relationship with Zachary Gross after he became physically abusive. On September 14, 2015, Marilyn went to his apartment, after they agreed to talk. He flew into a jealous rage when he saw a photograph of Marilyn that another man had posted on Facebook. He commanded his pit bull to attack her. The dog bit off portion of her right ear. Zachary then took a kitchen knife and scalped her, cutting a major blood vessel in the process. He drove her to her mother's house, and left her on the street.  But before he departed, he gave her a plastic bag that contained her fleshy scalp, and then callously told her , "you are bald now, no man would want you," Marilyn survived but would never be able to regrow her hair. Zachary was tried for first degree assault and sentenced to 21 years in prison.

At least one of these young people who were detained after the siege and destruction of Nusaybin is on hunger strike.  Kurdish political prisoners are on hunger strike again, whether you like it or not.  You can either ignore or support their right to use their own bodies to resist against this increasingly barbaric and genocidal Turkish regime.

IRISH: THE FORGOTTEN WHITE SLAVES

IRISH: THE FORGOTTEN WHITE SLAVES They came as slaves: human cargo transported on British ships bound for the Americas. They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands, men, women and even the youngest of children. Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an order, they were punished in the harshest ways. Slave owners would hang their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire as one form of punishment.  Some were burned alive then had their heads placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives. We don’t really need to go through all of the gory details, do we? We know all too well the atrocities of the African slave trade. But are we talking about African slavery? King James VI and Charles I also led a continued effort to enslave the Irish. Britain’s Oliver Cromwell furthered this practice of dehumanizing one’s next door neighbour. The Irish slave trade began when James VI sold 30,000 Irish prisoners as slaves to the New World. His Proclamation

On September 30, 1999 Hisashi Ouchi was exposed to the highest dose of nuclear radiation in human history.

On September 30, 1999 Hisashi Ouchi was exposed to the highest dose of nuclear radiation in human history. A 35-year-old lab technician at the nuclear plant in Tokaimura, Japan, Ouchi was mixing a uranium solution by hand directly over an open container when he accidentally poured in too much uranium, immediately causing a violent explosion.  For the next 83 days, Ouchi suffered unimaginable agony as the radiation worked its way through his body, obliterating his DNA and causing his skin to melt off and his eyes to weep blood before he finally died.  And though he begged for death, doctors refused to listen and kept him alive against his will for nearly three excruciating months.
